Over the River Tritone

A homeless man is walking along a bridge at night. A single lamppost is all that illuminates the area. He mumbles to himself about the vastness of space while snapping his fingers to a beat he doesn’t hear. Never one to take his eyes off the ground, the homeless man doesn’t see the woman in the black dress appear suddenly out of nowhere beneath the lamppost in front of him. The woman in the black dress holds out her hand to keep the homeless man from bumping into her and startles him into semi-clarity.
“I liked that song,” he says, staring at a beautiful vision he hasn’t seen in far too long.
“It’s time to go, Handsome.” She says softly. She takes his hand and pulls him toward her, as the light from the lamppost dims and the darkness begins to surround them.

“Are you the devil?” he asks, his voice cracking with fear.

She kisses him, and with a smile says, “If you like.”
